First project

This was the first project that I did for this class where we had to find a master work of art and make it our own. For this piece, I found a photograph of a bright cherry in a magazine page. I liked the image because it had a lot of values to it and I like drawing spherical or round objects. To make this piece my own, I changed up the color. Instead of bright red, I changed it to vibrant blue hues. I started this piece in a light graphite then used colored pencil to give it color. I started off by doing the water droplet on the side of the cherry. The red color was actually an accident. I was going to do the cherry in its original red color but then decided to change it. The droplet was finished before I decided to change the color. In the end, I actually liked how the red drop contrasted from the blue cherry. After i finished the droplet, I went on the the main part of the cherry. I started of with the white and light blue side to give the cherry a more realistic value to it. I then got darker as the light went away. I finished the cherry by doing the stem. originally, I was going to just keep the blank background but then I thought it would be cool to do geometric shapes. I did the lines and thought it wasn't enough so I added some color in some of the shapes.

Auditorium

Reference

This was my auditorium 50s piece. I wanted to capture the true essence of the 50s. Whenever I think of the 50s I think of old, retro tvs and new technology. I looked on Pinterest and typed 50s tvs and found the reference picture that is attached. I started off by doing it in my sketchbook in graphite then I finished it off by adding watercolor. When doing my final piece, I started with a light outline in graphite. After this, I added my watercolor. To give the tv more of a realistic look, I added darker and lighter brownish hues. To create the colors of the tv, I used colored pencil. I tried to use very vibrant colors.

Project

Final piece
Pinterest reference
This piece was made for the srq project. I got the idea from a Pinterest post of a peacock that had brush strokes as the feathers. To make it my own, I substituted the brush strokes with flowers. To create this piece I used acrylic for the peacocks main body and face as well as the flowers outline. To add more to this piece, I filled in the flowers with watercolor.  In this piece, I tried to emphasize colors and patterns. I did this by finding bright and bold colors that would Contrast with the darker blue of the peacocks body. I repeated the same flower pattern throughout the piece to emphasize the colors more as well as add rhythm. To give the peacock more of a realistic look to the neck, I added different hues. I added darker shades of blue to one side and lighter blues in the other to show that their was a light source coming from one side. To add some texture to the piece, I added the white dotted lines. This also added more contrast in the piece. I don't know yet if I want to add a background but for now it is complete.
